How to get admission in MBBS in Government College

Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery, commonly known as MBBS is a dream for every candidate who wishes to make his/her career as a doctor. This dream comes true only when candidates qualify for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) with the minimum qualifying percentile.

The process of admission in MBBS in government medical college involves a centralised counselling process which is conducted by the Directorate General of Health Sciences (DGHS) on behalf of the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC).     The scores obtained by candidates in NEET 2021 will be used for admission to 15% All India Quota (AIQ) and 85% State Quota MBBS seats in a government college. 15% of the total intake of seats from every government college will be reserved for AIQ quota.     • Every year over 15 lakhs candidates appear for the NEET exam. Generally 50% of the candidates are able to crack the entrance exam.
    • India currently  has  a total of 562 Medical colleges and the total number of MBBS seats is 84, 649. 
    • Candidates must secure a minimum of 50% (40% for reserved category students) of marks from any recognized board with Chemistry, Physics, and Botany/Zoology as compulsory subjects in their class 12th examination.
    • Minimum age limit for NEET 2021 is 17 years old.

    • NEET 2021 Syllabus will comprise topics of Biology, Chemistry and Physics, from class 11th and 12th.

    The MBBS is an undergraduate degree programme in medical field. It takes the duration of 5.5 years for the completion of the degree. It is very tough to pursue the MBBS course. This course is now in heavy demand by the students after 12th.

    The MBBS is a 5.5 year (4.5 years academic education + 1 year mandatory internship) UG degree programme leading to the two degrees as Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery.

    The students, who have cleared the 10+2 examination and they had the Physics, Chemistry and Biology in 12th stream, may go for the MBBS degree course.

    The MBBS is the only course in India to become a medical doctor. The MBBS course contains the basic subjects like physiology, biochemistry, microbiology, anatomy, pharmacology and pathology.

    Eligibility & Admission:

    How to get admission into MBBS programme?

    • To get admission into MBBS programme in India, students have to complete their 10+2 education with Physics, Chemistry & Biology and score minimum 50% marks (40% in the case of reserved category).
    • Student’s age should be between 17 years to 25 years.
    • The given qualification is not enough to get admission into MBBS course, students have to appear for the National Level Examination conducted by the CBSE, New Delhi, i.e. NEET 2020 (National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test). Students also apply for AIIMS 2020 & JIPMER 2020 MBBS Entrance Exam to get admission into MBBS programme.
    • From the year 2016, the Supreme Court bans the state level or university level examinations for admission into MBBS & BDS courses.
    • Now, all the admission into MBBS course through NEET Exam.
